Montreal, May 23, 2025 – Renaissance will celebrate the opening of a new thrift store at Centre Domaine, located in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood. True to its mission of professional integration for those distanced from employment, the organization continues its commitment to the circular economy in Quebec, and more specifically in East Montreal. Exclusively established in the province, Renaissance reinvests all its resources locally to amplify its impact within the community.
A New Thrift Store to Better Serve East Montreal
The opening of this thrift store at Centre Domaine addresses a growing need in East Montreal, an area that is under-served in terms of second-hand shops and socio-professional integration resources.
“This opening marks an important step in our development. By setting up in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, we want to provide residents with better access to affordable items and employment opportunities, while reinforcing our social and environmental impact,” explains Éric St-Arnaud, General Manager of Renaissance.
A Project with Significant Social and Environmental Impact
In addition to offering a wide selection of clothing, household items, and accessories, the thrift store at Centre Domaine will provide professional integration opportunities. Each year, around twenty people will benefit from support for sustainable reintegration into the job market, thanks to Renaissance’s employability programs.
The Employment Assistance Center (CAER) will also support nearly 150 job seekers annually.
A 100% Quebec Commitment
For 30 years, Renaissance has been serving Quebecers by combining social and environmental impact. Founded in 1994 by Pierre Legault, also the founder of Moisson Montréal, the organization helps thousands of people each year achieve sustainable reintegration into the job market, while promoting responsible consumption.
At the provincial level, Renaissance has collected over 2 million donations through a network of more than 70 collection points. Last year, over 31,000 tons of goods were diverted from landfills and resold in more than 40 stores. This year’s goal is to surpass 35,000 tons.
With a placement rate of over 80% for participants in its employability programs and users of its employment assistance centers, Renaissance plays a key role in fighting poverty and promoting a sustainable, human-centered economic model.
A Concrete Action for the Planet
Thanks to citizen donations and purchases, this new thrift store will help divert nearly 1,000 tons of reusable goods from landfills each year. This effort is part of Renaissance’s broader commitment to divert 50,000 tons of materials by 2030.
On a social level, more than 3,000 people benefit each year from Renaissance’s services, including integration pathways, Employment Assistance Center services, and referrals to other resources.
The opening of the Renaissance thrift store at Centre Domaine thus represents a concrete opportunity for citizens to contribute to a circular economy while supporting professional integration and waste reduction.
