At Renaissance, it’s Earth Day every day.
By donating and shopping at Renaissance, you contribute to our primary mission of facilitating the socio-professional integration of individuals facing barriers in entering the job market, all while promoting the preservation of the environment.
Reducing consumption and making better, informed choices is part of the solution.
Did you know that 80% of our personal wardrobe never sees the light of day, and clothing production more than doubled between 2000 and 2015, now ranking as the second most polluting industry in the world, generating 10% of carbon emissions (Source: LaPresse) ?
Did you know that in Canada, only 15% of clothing is reused or recycled, largely due to the phenomenon of fast fashion, which favours short-lived textiles? The rest ends up in landfills (Source: Ellen MacArthur Foundation).
Earth Month is an opportunity to reflect on our impact on the environment and, most importantly, to consider ecological solutions to preserve the planet for future generations.
Last year, over 1.7 million people contributed to their communities and to the environment by donating items they no longer had use for to Renaissance. These donations were gifted a second life through our network of stores rather than ending up in landfills.
Thanks to your support, we succeeded in diverting over 27,000 tonnes of used items from landfills and enabled 1,265 individuals to enter the job market or receive training through our various employability programs.
Let’s collectively continue by making better & more informed consumption options.
A simple gesture to benefit the Earth is adjusting our consumption practices to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage local initiatives. Transitioning to buying second-hand may seem simple, but the positive effects have a significant impact.
When you favour second-hand you:
· Discover unique treasures
· Acquire brand names at affordable prices
· Support beneficial initiative
· Extend the lifespan of products
· Reduce waste
· Adopt practices of responsible consumption
